Acne is a disorder of the follicles found in the face and upper trunk. At puberty androgens increase the production of sebum from enlarged sebaceous glands that become blocked and infected causing an inflammatory reaction. Acne is characterised by comedones, blackheads, white heads and inflamed papules, pustules and nodules. Almost every teenager can expect to experience acne to some degree during adolescent years, tending to effect boys more than girls. Genetic factors do play a part and acne can also be associated with medical conditions such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Cushings disease etc.

Acne can cause severe psychological problems undermining self-assurance and self-esteem at a vulnerable time in life. Treatments for acne can begin with simple advice on cleanliness and diet but many other treatments are available. We know there are many products advertised over the counter but these usually are of only minimal benefit. Here in our clinic we offer topical treatments, oral medical treatments and specific skin care advice tailored to your requirements.

We also offer a range of chemical and resurfacing skin peels which are proven to improve the appearance of acne. Any form of acne can lead to scarring. Scarring usually results from deep lesions but superficial lesions can also cause scarring. 1 in 5 gets significant (socially obvious) scarring. Should scarring occur as a result of acne we offer corrective treatments known as Skin Boosting.

School, dating, social issues – things are difficult enough for teenagers. When you add pimples, inflammation, and skin issues to the mix, things can get overwhelming. Searching for the best acne treatment may be a difficult, lengthy process for all adolescents, but acne problems pose a unique problem for teenagers looking for a quick solution to clear skin.  Acne is embarrassing for adolescents. Whilst girls frequently discuss the overwhelming distress they face during acne breakouts, boys are more inclined to suffer in silence. Coping with and treating acne can be particularly difficult for both sexes, that’s why we offer free acne treatment advice.

What acne treatment solutions do we provide for teenagers at SDS Rejuvenate? Most of the acne treatment solutions will contain ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or both. Benzoyl peroxide can treat acne by killing bacteria that grow inside the skin pores and lead to pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and inflammation. Salicylic acid is a bit milder than benzoyl peroxide, and it is an effective acne treatment due to its ability to unclog pores that trap oil and bacteria beneath the surface of the skin and we then combine them with a moisturiser than can keep the skin hydrated, smooth, and free of inflammation.

The key product in the range is BiRetix Duo gel, a powerhouse of advanced technologies that tackle spots at every stage of their development:

  • A unique combination of vitamin A ingredients help to clear pores and clarify the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of comedones that can lead to spots.
  • A sophisticated botanical complex that’s clinically proven to fight P.acnes; the bacteria that leads to spots.
  • Salicylic acid; clinically proven to purify skin and help to reduce redness.

The range also includes the treatment enhancing BiRetix Micropeel,  Mask and Cleanser to create an effective, rounded regime:

  • BiRetix Micropeel: A clarifying and exfoliating cleanser containing a combination of willow bark extract and physical botanical exfoliants to help clear pores and stimulate cell renewal leaving the skin feeling soft, soothed and refreshed.

  • BiRetix Cleanser: A gentle daily cleansing gel with natural moisturisers and anti-redness ingredients that leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh.

The DermaClear Collection was formuated to combat the many stages and types of acne. Whether you’re prone to breakouts or simply need to correct a spot now and then, we offer a variety of products blended to prevent, quell and alleviate the myriad symptoms of acne.

  • Dermalux LED:

Dermalux LED phototherapy reproduces the same properties of sunlight without the sun’s harmful UV light – clinically proven to kill acne bacteria. It’s therefore safe for use in the treatment of acne on even the most sensitive skin. When acne bacteria appears as acne spots, porphyrins are produced which absorb blue light energy, providing antibacterial benefits. It is suitable for all skin types including darker skins, teenage skin and stubborn cystic acne. It’s an effective alternative if your skin does not respond to other acne treatments, medicated acne creams or has become antibiotic resistant.

Innopen – Micro-needling

Collagen induction therapy C.I.T is designed to reverse years of skin wrinkling, sun damage, hyper pigmentation and acne scarring. The INNOPen is a medical grade state of the art medical micro-needling pen, who’s medical grade micro needles create hundreds of tiny micro channels through the epidermis into the deeper dermis.

This controlled micro needling triggers the natural process of collagen and elastin repair without scarring, results in improved skin strength, thickness and smoothness producing healthier more youthful skin.

The advanced medical features of the INNOPen allow penetration of variable depth, 0.25mm – 2.0mm and the speed of injections can be varied providing versatility to remodel the skin in many areas including the face, neck, décolletage, arms, hands and abdomen (this can improve the appearance of stretch marks).

The procedure takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on the area being treated, with no downtime.

Precise micro channels created by the INNOPen deliver therapeutic serums direct to the  deeper layers of the skin where they stimulate collagen and elastin. The INNOPen small round stamp like shape can effectively treat the hard to reach places, for example around the eyes, nose and lips. Because of the accurate 90 degree delivery the precisely placed needles easily penetrate the epidermis to promote scar less healing and natural collagen production, similar to fractional laser treatments but without the side effects and downtime. The mechanism of injury is a natural process which make the INNOPen an holistic approach to skin therapy.

How does collagen C.I.T work?

There are 3 major phases of natural dermal and epidermal wound healing, this resulting in enhanced stimulation of new healthy skin.

Phase 1 (days 1-3) – Inflammation: Activated by piercing the dermal tissue, platelets release cytokines and growth factors which act as signals for the body’s immune system. White blood cells (neutrophils and macrophages) are sent in to disinfect the wounds, clear the debris, increase the blood supply and begin the creation of fresh, new skin.

Phase 2 (days 3-5) – Proliferation: In this phase, the fibroblasts, keratinocytes and epidermal cells continue to divide to populate the areas of damage and secrete growth factors and extracellular matrix, such as elastin and collagen will be laid down and deposited with new tissue formation.

Phase 3 (days 6-30) – Remodelling: during this phase, collagen and elastin producing fibroblasts proliferate in the puncture wounds formed by the micro needles and migrate. The collagen in the newly formed tissue is now replaced with even stronger collagen and the dermis contracts to create a youthful firm, but supple texture to the skin.

1 – Who will benefit from INNOPen?
Anyone who wishes to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve the appearance of hyper pigmentation or acne scars. This treatment generally creates a fresher appearance and glow to the skin.

2 – Is this treatment painful?
With appropriate preparation the treatment should not be uncomfortable, it has been described similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin.

3 – How long does the treatment take?
Treatment varies depending on the area treated but we suggest you require between 30 and 45 minutes, however we apply a numbing cream before the treatment and we like to allow approximately 20 to 30 minutes in order to achieve optimum anaesthetic effect.

4 – How will I feel after the treatment?
Immediately after the treatment your skin will feel warm to the touch.

5 – Is there any downtime?
Immediately post treatment, there is a redness to the skin similar to that of sunburn. The skin does feel warm to the touch but this usually settles with the application of a peptide gel mask within as little as 30 to 60 minutes. However depending on the sensitivity of the skin you may experience some slight redness which can last up to  2 to 3 days.

6 – Are the results immediate?
Patients usually have an immediate glow to the skin, but the visible changes develop over a course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve for up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.

7 – Is this a one off treatment?
Some patients only require a single treatment, however it is recommended for most patients to receive between 2 and 4 treatments spaced approximately 6 weeks apart. However if a patient has deep wrinkles, acne scars or stretch marks, it is recommended to receive between 6 and 8 treatment sessions at 6 weekly intervals.

The Leading Light in LED Phototherapy!

Multi Award winning Dermalux® is the latest generation in LED Phototherapy combining clinically proven wavelengths of light delivered at safe, therapeutic doses to naturally stimulate skin rejuvenation and resolve problem skin conditions for the face and body.

Dermalux® systems ensure ‘optimised’ penetration of light into the skin to energise cellular functions with excellent results for skin rejuvenation, acne and spot prone skin, pigmentation and inflammatory conditions such as rosacea, psoriasis and dermatitis.

Effective treatments for a range of skin conditions including:

  • Skin Rejuvenation
    • Acne & spot prone skin
    • Rosacea, redness & flushing
    • Pigmentation
  • Dehydrated skin
    • Inflammatory conditions
    • Accelerated healing
    • Wellbeing

LED Phototherapy is based on the principle that living cells are able to absorb and are influenced by light. The treatment involves exposing the skin to low levels of beneficial light energy from the visible and infrared part of the light spectrum which energise cellular functions to stimulate various cellular processes with therapeutic effects. It is a natural response similar to that of plant photo-synthesis through a process known as photobiomodulation.

While we often associate light exposure with negative effects such as skin ageing and damage, light also has many positive influences on the body. It helps us produce vitamin D and provides energy and serotonin for example. It can also promote healing, reduce inflammation and pain and prevent tissue damage.

The differences between the positive and negative effects of light are the amount and the parts of the light spectrum we are exposed to. Whilst on-going exposure to UV is very damaging, controlled levels of Red, Blue and Near Infrared light are clinically proven to be beneficial.

LED Phototherapy has long been known for its regenerating and anti-inflammatory properties. Research demonstrates that it increases collagen production, destroys acne causing bacteria, reduces inflammation, improves skin tone, texture and clarity and eases muscular and joint pain. Unlike more invasive procedures that work as a result of the body’s response to trauma, LED Phototherapy is a safe and year round treatment option for all skin types without discomfort or downtime.

Successful treatment with LED Phototherapy is determined by delivering clinically proven wavelengths at an optimised intensity and dose to maximise the light / chromophore interaction that allow for these specific cellular reactions to take place.

If the wavelength does not match the target cell then there will be no absorption and therefore no reaction and no result. Secondly, if the photon intensity is too low then again there will be no reaction and no result. Not all LED Phototherapy systems are the same!

Dermaplaning – An exfoliation treatment that removes peach fuzz and dead skin

Buff away the dead skin cells that make complexions look dull and contribute to clogged pores and spots. Dermaplaning clears the way so skin peels, facials, skin products and serums can get down into the skin where they need to be rather than sitting on the skin’s surface. It removes peach fuzz / vellus hair and creates clear channels into the skin as well as a soft, smooth surface for makeup to glide on flawlessly.

As we age, our cell turnover decreases and this affects our skin texture and tone, Dermaplaning gently buffs the top layer of dead skin cells away helps to reveal a brighter and smoother complexion.

How Does It Work?

Dermaplaning uses a surgical blade to perform a deep exfoliation. The edge of the scalpel is used at a 45-degree angle to scrape the build-up of dirt and oils in and around the skin and vellus hair.

The vellus hair is completely removed during the process leaving skin ultra-smooth and creating the perfect base for make-up application.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Dermaplaning is a very safe procedure. Skin is stretched during the procedure and the blade is always held at a 45-degree angle to reduce the risk of nicking the skin with the blade. If you have dry patches of skin, a small amount of serum is applied to enable to the blade to glide across the skin smoothly.

Skin may be a little pink immediately after treatment due to being stretched but this normally subsides within an hour or so.

Peach fuzz / vellus hairs do not come back thicker and stronger. It will grow back at exactly the same rate, thickness and texture as before.

We recommend you book a free skin consultation with one of our aestheticians to help you find which treatment is suitable for you and your skin.

To achieve optimal results from your DermaQuest Skin Resurfacing Treatments, the skin needs to be balanced or prepared. This will speed up the healing process and reduce any adverse effects. By preparing the skin we begin to remove any dead surface cells before the treatment so that absorption rates and affects are increased giving a better, more consistent result.

Facials are one of our most popular type of non-surgical skin enhancement and are designed to make you look and feel more radiant, rejuvenated and youthful. Your face is exposed to the elements and pollution on a daily basis, so with busy lives it can be tricky to give your skin as much attention as it needs.

Skincare is both an art and a science. The range of products and brands can be daunting, which is why we offer free skin consultations with our skin therapists, they will guide you through the treatment options and ask about your problem areas, products you are currently using and a little on lifestyle before making a recommendation. You’ll need around 20 to 30 minutes for a consultation.

Classic facials involve a series of beauty treatments which aim to restore a healthy, clear complexion and balance to your skin, leaving it soft and fresh looking and you feeling pampered and relaxed.

A salon or spa facial includes much more than the basic cleanse, tone and moisturise routine. Treatments vary by skin type and what you want to achieve. Using a scrub or peel to remove dead skin cells, massages to relax, drain toxins and stimulate circulation, and the application of a mask to firm, rehydrate or brighten, are typical. If you’re a serious glow-getter your facial might use high tech as well as hands-on treatments to give your skin a boost.

Some results will be visible immediately and others after a couple of sessions. A regular facial can be part of your flawless skin artillery, a pick-up before a special occasion or something you have when experiencing a breakout, tired or run-down, or in need of a treat.

To book in for a facial and discuss your skin needs call our clinics today for a free no obligation consultation.

Recent data reveals that rosacea affects 77% of people emotionally, 67% socially, 63% at work and 53% in their relationships or dating behaviour.

What are the symptoms and how do I know I have rosacea?

  • Frequent flushing of the face
  • Redness (erythema) which my look like sunburn
  • Small lumpy spots which may look like acne
  • Telangectasia – tiny blood vessels under the skin
  • These symptoms are usually on the cheeks, forehead, nose and around the mouth and chin.

Who gets rosacea? – Around 1:10 people in the UK are thought to develop rosacea. Symptoms may first appear in your early 20’s, but the usual age that these symptoms appear is in your 30’s to 50’s. Women are more likely to suffer than men and it is more prevalent in fair skinned than dark skinned individuals.

What causes rosacea? – The exact cause of rosacea is unknown; a number of factors may be involved, e.g. sun damage, genetics, abnormal immune reactions in the skin which lead to inflammation.

What are the treatments available? – Unfortunately you cannot stop the development of rosacea but there are treatments that can help ease the symptoms.

General Measures:

Avoid strong sunlight to the face as it is thought to make symptoms worse. Using a good sun block 30+ with UVA and UVB protection.

Avoid extremes of temperature, alcohol, strenuous exercise, stressful situations, spicy foods, and hot drinks as these can all precipitate the facial flushing.

Medical Measures:

Mirvaso is a gel that is applied to the face when one wishes to reduce the appearance of facial redness. The redness can be reduced and becomes evident as soon as 30 minutes after application and the effect lasts up to 12 hours. This gel works by reducing excessive blood flow and therefore reduces the redness. The active ingredient is Brimonidine.

There is a consistent efficacy with daily use for up to 1 year although one may prefer to use this on a when required basis. For the ladies, make up can be applied as normal over the gel.

Often rosacea is associated with outbreaks of pustules and may require a combination of treatments. In such situations Efracea is used. This is one tablet to be taken on a daily basis initially for 2 months and then as and when required.

We also stock a range from Circadia by Dr Pugliese designed to treat, soothe and calm rosacea and sensitive skins.

A cream designed for those with sensitive skin and/or Rosacea. Contains hydrating agents and powerful anti-irritants to help reduce the appearance of redness and itching sensations, to improve skin softness and comfort upon application.

Rose-Ease Relief Cream

This cream helps calm the redness and irritation associated with Rosacea, while aiding in controlling the demodex mite, thought to contribute to Rosacea.
